Listen to Bonnie Montgomery and Melissa Carper cover the Eagles
Ever wondered what Natural State songbird Bonnie Montgomery would sound like if she time-traveled back to the ’70s to sit in with some soft rockers? You’re in luck. On Wednesday, Montgomery, alongside fellow singer-songwriters Melissa Carper (once Arkansas-based) and Jenn Miori Hodges (who hails from Texas), released a cover of the Eagles’ 1972 track “Peaceful Easy Feeling” under a brand new moniker: the Sheagles.
It’s unclear whether the Sheagles will exclusively be an Eagles cover band, but we’re excited nonetheless for what’s in store. Their rendition of “Peaceful Easy Feeling” is fairly faithful to the original, though it’s unsurprisingly rootsier. The difference that most stands out to me, however, is the Sheagles’ tasteful use of orchestral-sounding strings, all of which were performed by jazz and bluegrass violinist Billy Contreras when the song was recorded in Nashville at The Bomb Shelter.
Though Montgomery and Carper each have long musical histories in Arkansas, they only released their first single as a duo in March. In the meantime, Carper has been busy with Sad Daddy, a rowdy quartet that dropped its fourth album, “Ozark Shine,” in June.
