SLIDESHOW: Indoor farmers market at Breckenridge Village open for business

Outdoor farmers markets are winding down for the season, but a new indoor market just opened up in Little Rock’s Breckenridge Village, with fare from 51 farmers, bakers and makers from across the state.

The Little Farm Stop, a project of the nonprofit St. Joseph Center of Arkansas, aims to help Arkansas producers make a living year-round.

A website shares the operation’s generous hours, and its aim. “The traditional grocery system pays farmers about 15 cents of every dollar a customer spends. We pay 70 cents. That’s the difference between farming as a hobby and farming as a livelihood.”

The shop provides a new physical presence for a community of beekeepers, artists, musicians, farmsteaders and urban gardeners who operated out of the historic St. Joseph House in North Little Rock until a catastrophic fire destroyed the property in 2025. The Catholic Diocese, which owns the former orphanage and grounds, terminated its lease with the St. Joseph Center soon after.

The organization persisted, and continues in its calling to “help people of all ages discover the joy of growing fresh, healthy food and the skills to share it.”
