Where to experience Taste France in Spain « Euro Weekly News

Feel like swapping your croquettes for coq au vin? Local markets in Seville, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, and Zaragoza are hosting free pop-up tastings and live culinary sessions as Taste France comes to Spain.

A French food tour

A taste of France is coming to local markets across Spain this autumn, with free pop-ups and food activities focused on French potatoes, fruit and vegetables. Visitors can discover and sample the produce, and learn more about its characteristics and how to use it in the kitchen.

The initiative is supported by CNIPT, France’s potato-sector organisation, and Interfel, the country’s fruit and vegetable interprofessional organisation. For residents and visitors, the market stops are the ideal way to explore French ingredients as part of an everyday outing and best of all, the events are free to attend.

What was seen in Madrid

Madrid hosted the first two events at Mercado de Chamartin and Mercado de La Paz where Chef and content creator Clara P. Villalon led four cookery demonstrations, the first two sessions focused on French potatoes and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The programme then moved to the central square at Mercado de La Paz, where Villalon held two more cookery demonstrations exploring ways to use the produce in everyday meals, from traditional dishes to more creative ideas. Tastings included carrot and apple with soy vinaigrette, and roasted pumpkin and leek soup finished with seeds.

Further dates and city stops

The tour is scheduled to continue at Mercado de Triana in Seville from October 15 to 17, then at Barcelona’s Mercado del Ninot from October 22 to 24.

Later stops are planned for Mercado de la Ribera in Bilbao from November 12 to 14 , Valencia’s Mercado Central from November 19 to 21, and Mercado Central in Zaragoza from November 26 to 28. All five city stops are open from 10am to 2pm.

If you happen to be visiting these cities of live close by, these events are a great way to explore French flavours, pick up some tips from live cookery shows and learn more about a different cuisine. For more information see the Taste France website.
