Here’s how to see John Wilson’s ‘The History of Concrete’ in Little Rock

Have you, like me, been checking local theater listings constantly for the past couple of weeks, hoping for a showing of John Wilson’s highly anticipated documentary, “The History of Concrete?”

Look no more. Cinema I/O, Little Rock’s premier (and only) arthouse micro-cinema, has you covered, and has put together an exciting lineup this month on top of the Wilson doc.

October’s programming kicks off with “Filipiñana,” Filipino filmmaker Rafael Manuel’s feature debut. The film premiered at Sundance earlier this year, where it took home the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision. In a glowing review for NPR’s Fresh Air, critic Justin Chang said the film “marks the arrival of a remarkable talent” in Manuel, and praised his sharp critique of class disparity in modern Manila, Philippines.

“Filipiñana” starts screening Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Good Weather, an art gallery and warehouse at 420 Byrd St. where Cinema I/O hosts the majority of its screenings, and runs through Oct. 18. Get tickets here, and check out the trailer below:

Next up is “The History of Concrete,” which starts screening at Good Weather on Oct. 17 and runs through Oct. 24. Wilson, who came to prominence with his HBO documentary show “How To with John Wilson,” is back with his feature directorial debut, which, if you’ve seen his show, will likely explore a lot more than just concrete.

“The History of Concrete,” which also premiered at Sundance this year, generated $1 million from 160 screens in just 16 days, making it the highest-grossing platform-distributed documentary of 2026, according to IndieWire.

As the term “micro-cinema” implies, Cinema I/O’s space at Good Weather is quite small, seating 10 people at a time, so act quickly if you want to secure a spot. (However, Cinema I/O founder Omaya Jones told us that he would try to accommodate additional screenings of “The History of Concrete” if there’s demand.)

Also on the docket this month is Alfred Hitchcock’s “Marnie,” screening for free on Oct. 20 at CALS Ron Robinson Theater. Part of a monthly series dubbed “Cinema I/O Presents,” where Cinema I/O hosts a free screening at Ron Robinson, “Marnie” will be followed by a discussion of the film.
