What are the routes of the major protest marches in Paris on Tuesday?
Scores of demonstrations will take place in towns and cities across France on Tuesday as public sector workers stage a strike. The main protest will be in Paris. Here’s the route.
The public sector demonstration is scheduled to start at 2pm in Paris on Tuesday from Place de la République, according to calls issued by unions. They will head towards Boulevard du Temple before turning onto Boulevard Beaumarchais towards Place de la Bastille.
Protesters will then turn onto Rue de Lyon, then onto Avenue Daumesnil, before heading along Boulevard Diderot to Place de la Nation, where the demonstration is due to end. (See blue itinerary on map)
The Préfecture de Police may decide to alter the route, so it remains subject to change.
Firefighters to join from a different route
Firefighters are also demonstrating in Paris on Tuesday as they protest against a lack of staff and equipment.
They will start their march at Place d’Italie in the south of the city at around 2.15pm, cross the Pont d’Austerlitz, towards Place de la Bastille, before concluding the march alongside the protesters who set off from Place de la République, with Place de la Nation as their final destination. 170 demonstrations will also take place in towns and cities across France on Tuesday, with many beginning earlier in the day.
More than 100,000 demonstrators are expected to take to the streets across France, including an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 in Paris, with between 5,000 and 10,000 firefighters also expected to join the protests.
