IND vs AUS, U-19 Test: Yashbardhan picks six after Lakshya’s 240 as India beats Australia by an innings and 48 runs

India under-19 captain Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan stamped his authority at the Niranjan Shah Stadium here on Tuesday, claiming six wickets as India Under-19 registered an innings and 48-run victory over Australia Under-19 in the first Youth Test.

After Lakshya Raichandani (240, 281b, 24×4, 4×6) and Mohit Ulva (92, 84b, 10×4, 4×6) shared a massive 180-run partnership for the ninth wicket to take India to 494 and a 277-run lead, Australia’s batters had little answer to the Indian spinners.

With the temperature soaring, wickets fell in clusters as off-spinner Yashbardhan (six for 75) and left-arm spinner Ishan Om (four for 62) kept the pressure on. Australia was eventually bowled out for 229, barely an hour after Tea on the third day.

Blake Cattle, who scored a century in the first innings, followed it up with a gritty 123 (114b, 16×4, 4×6). With wickets tumbling around him, he counter-attacked before eventually falling to Yashbardhan.

Neel Patel, who has roots in Gujarat, chipped in with a 78-ball 41 (6×4). He tried to steady the innings after Australia slipped to 17 for three, but his resistance ended when Yashbardhan cleaned him up.

After claiming a five-wicket haul in the first innings, Ishan once again provided crucial breakthroughs, while Yashbardhan tightened the screws from the other end.

Earlier, Lakshya fell 10 runs short of his maiden 250, while Mohit missed out on his maiden hundred by eight runs. Their partnership ensured India added 64 runs to its overnight 430 for eight and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
