9-1-1’s LeAnn Rimes on Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw Throuple

LeAnn Rimes‘ character on 9-1-1: Nashville has chemistry with both Chris O’Donnell and Jessica Capshaw — but what are the odds the show explores a throuple?

“It’s so funny. Jess and I do have great chemistry and we are just acting with each other,” Rimes, 44, exclusively tells Us. “We bring the best out of each other. I love working with her and we have so much fun every time we get to work together.”

Rimes admits she doesn’t know what the writers had planned, adding, “Trust me, we see it online all the time. We laugh so hard. Obviously, they even put it in the first episode in our therapy session of ‘You two want to bang each other.’”

She continues: “I think that because of the character Jess has played on Grey’s Anatomy, that support has followed her everywhere she’s gone. She has such a massive LGBTQ+ following, so I think people would love to see it. You never know, it could happen in a dream sequence.”

9-1-1: Nashville viewers have been clinging to LeAnn Rimes and Jessica Capshaw‘s onscreen chemistry — and the country singer isn’t ruling out a possible onscreen romance between Dixie and Blythe. “That [idea] is my favorite. Jessica and I laugh so much about that,” Rimes, 43, exclusively told Us Weekly before 9-1-1: Nashville‘s return on Thursday, […]

Set in Tennessee, 9-1-1: Nashville follows emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, as they face life-threatening situations — with just as many obstacles in their personal lives.

Rimes plays Don’s (Chris O’Donnell) ex Dixie, with whom he shares son Blue (Hunter McVey). Two seasons into playing the character, Rimes still has some ideas on her wishlist — including a potential romance.

“You never know what they might come up with. We do see what people say. We do pay attention. The writers pay attention and I think it’s time,” she tells Us. “It’s time for Dixie to have a love interest. I know we’ve talked about that at some point, just to maybe move on from the situation [with Don and Blythe] a little bit.”

The country singer isn’t ruling out 9-1-1: Nashville circling back to Don, Blythe and Dixie’s love triangle.

“There will always be this dynamic between the three of them that will wax and wane,” she teases. “Maybe they would be friendlier and then not so friendly. They’ll butt heads. But I think maybe it’s time for Dixie to have a little bit of something of her own.”

Emily in Paris and Doctor Odyssey are perfect examples of TV shows with iconic love triangles that would be better off introducing a throuple. The hit Netflix series, which debuted in 2020, followed Emily (Lily Collins) as she made the move from the U.S. to France, and the challenges that come with that. Emily found […]

Rimes also supports Us’ suggestion for Dixie to explore a connection with newcomer Rogue (Ryan Phillippe).

“She might be the handful that he needs. I do know if there is a scene between Rogue and Dixie, there will definitely be some flirtation because that’s just Dixie,” she says. “If there’s a hot guy standing in front of her, there will be some flirtation there. I don’t know where they’re going to run with that. But Ryan is probably right that there’s not a lot of romance going on in his corner of the world. But you never know what’s going to happen.”

When it comes to what’s in store for the rest of the season, Rimes couldn’t give too much away. “Jess and I had this conversation the other day. We were both like, ‘We’re really excited to find out who the [villain] Pharaoh is and where we’re going. What are we doing at the end of the season?’” she says. “We have no idea. I really don’t have a theory yet. But we really are left out in the dark.”

9-1-1: Nashville airs on ABC Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
