Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Brian Goldstone to speak at Ron Robinson Theater on Wednesday
BRIAN GOLDSTONE
WEDNESDAY 11/4. CALS Ron Robinson Theater. 6:30 p.m. Free.
An alarming statistic lurks in the third paragraph of The New York Times’ glowing review of “There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America,” journalist Brian Goldstone’s Pulitzer Prize-winning nonfiction debut: “Politicians have been incentivized to define homelessness narrowly, including only people living in shelters or on the street. A true measure of homelessness in America would be six times the official figure … pushing the number up to more than four million.” It’s this much larger group of vulnerable people that concerns Goldstone, who zeroes in on five Atlanta families with precarious housing whose breadwinners “work a lot, and earn very little” in a rapidly gentrifying city. Goldstone’s visit to CALS Ron Robinson Theater is part of the J.N. Heiskell Distinguished Lecture Series and will be moderated by Ben Goodwin, the longtime executive director of Our House in Little Rock. Reserve your spot at events.cals.org.
