Chinese Female Spy Suspected of Targeting Nvidia Chief
TOKYO –
U.S. intelligence agencies suspect that a Chinese female intelligence operative developed a close relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in an attempt to obtain confidential corporate and U.S. government information, according to a report published by The New York Times on October 29th.
The woman, identified as Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a senior executive at Megaspeed, a data center company based in Singapore. U.S. intelligence officials reportedly concluded that she was working as an intelligence asset for Beijing after investigating suspicions that her company was helping China obtain advanced American semiconductor technology.
According to the report, the woman established close ties with Jensen Huang, raising concerns among U.S. intelligence officials that she could gain access to sensitive information about Nvidia’s operations and the U.S. government’s technology and national security policies.
President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed on the intelligence findings approximately a year ago but decided against taking specific action. The report said the administration was concerned that intervening could damage Nvidia’s semiconductor sales and further complicate trade relations between the United States and China.
Nvidia, the world’s leading supplier of advanced artificial intelligence chips, has become a central player in the technological rivalry between Washington and Beijing. The U.S. government has imposed restrictions on exports of high-performance semiconductors to China over concerns that the technology could strengthen Chinese military and intelligence capabilities.
An Nvidia spokesperson rejected suggestions that sensitive information had been compromised, saying the company’s customers do not receive confidential trade secrets or information relevant to national security.
The company also maintained that Huang’s interactions with executives of customer companies were routine business activities.
The report did not establish that Jensen Huang knowingly assisted Chinese intelligence activities or disclosed confidential information.
