Brewers fan holds onto 1982 World Series ticket stub

A lifelong Milwaukee Brewers fan has held onto two small pieces of baseball history: his original ticket stubs from the 1982 World Series, which cost just $18 apiece.

For 44 years, Milwaukee Brewers fan Bob Cummings has held onto two small pieces of baseball history: his original ticket stubs from the 1982 World Series, which cost just $18 apiece.

In 1982, he secured two tickets to Game 5 of the World Series at Milwaukee County Stadium, where the Brewers faced the St. Louis Cardinals.

“You can’t imagine the excitement that I went through when I got these tickets,” Cummings said.

Although Milwaukee ultimately lost the series in seven games, Cummings said attending Game 5 is one of his most cherished moments.

“It was the most exhilarating, exciting sporting event I’ve ever attended in my entire life,” he said.

Cummings kept both ticket stubs tucked inside his original World Series program, preserving them for decades.

“They’re just memories that I can’t let go of,” Cummings said.

As the Brewers prepare for their first World Series appearance since 1982, those tickets are bringing back memories and emotions Cummings thought he might never experience again.

“Being at the fifth game of the World Series gave me so much hope that in the future they would make it again,” Cummings said. “I waited, and they made it.”

But unlike in 1982, Cummings won’t be cheering from the stands this time. He said the rising cost of World Series tickets, along with mobility challenges, makes attending the games difficult.

When asked what it would mean to see the Brewers win their first World Series championship, Cummings became emotional.

“Everything. I’m at the end of my road. This is my last chance to see them win a World Series,” he said.

Despite being unable to attend in person, Cummings plans to cheer on the team from home, hoping the 44-year wait ends with a championship.

Now, as the Brewers prepare for their first World Series appearance since 1982, those tickets are bringing back memories and emotions.
