A minibus collided with a stationary train near the entrance to the Channel Tunnel in northern France on Thursday evening, injuring the driver and 18 passengers, French authorities said.
Five people were severely injured though no one’s life appeared to be in danger, the local prefect said in a statement.
The minibus was transporting a group of truck drivers who were due to depart on the cross-Channel train.
The Pas-de-Calais prefet said: “An accident involving a minibus transporting heavy goods vehicle drivers who were about to board a Le Shuttle shuttle occurred this evening, at the loading platform of the Eurotunnel site.
“Significant resources were immediately mobilized by Eurotunnel, then under the authority of the prefect of Pas-de-Calais.
“The initial report indicates 19 people involved, including the driver. No deaths are to be reported at this stage and no lives are in danger.
Two trains on the tunnel’s Eurostar service between France and England were listed as being cancelled on Thursday evening. It wasn’t immediately clear whether there was any knock on effect for Le Shuttle train services.
