FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

Country singer Zach Bryan and his bandmates wore pro-Palestine shirts onstage at a Gillette Stadium concert Friday night.

Bryan, who had two concerts scheduled at the Foxborough venue over the weekend, wore a black shirt with the phrases “Free Palestine. An appeal to heaven” on it.

“An appeal to heaven” is a phrase and symbol that dates back to the Revolutionary War. It was the maritime flag of Massachusetts until 1971.

Other members of Bryan’s band wore Palestinian soccer jerseys.

In September, Robert Kraft, the CEO of the Kraft Group, which owns Gillette Stadium, barred rapper Macklemore from opening for singer Ed Sheeran in Foxborough.

That move came after Macklemore gave a speech at a concert in New Jersey where he said “Free Palestine” and claimed Israel was committing a genocide in Gaza.

In a statement at the time, Kraft said Macklemore’s speech was deeply offensive to the Jewish community.

Bryan is set to return to Gillette for another concert Saturday night.
