Asian Games 2026 Men’s cricket: India progresses to semifinal after Afghanistan match called off due to rain
India’s Asian Games 2026 encounter against Afghanistan at the Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin on Monday was called off without a ball being bowled.
Incessant rain in the Aichi region and the ensuing wet outfield meant India could not take the field in its first encounter of the multi-sport tournament.
The first quarterfinal between Pakistan and Hong Kong was called off minutes before the scheduled start of play.
According to the competition rules, Shreyas Iyer and Co. will advance to the semifinal by virtue of being seeded higher in the tournament (higher ICC T20I ranking). India will take on the winner of the match between Sri Lanka and Nepal which will take place on Tuesday, September 29.
Due to this provision, Pakistan also advanced to the final four, where it will face the winner of the contest between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The final of the previous edition of the Games in Hangzhou between the same two teams was also called off due to rain, handing India the gold medal.
