Harpersville man dies two days after Shelby County crash involving teen driver

A 70-year-old Harpersville man has died two days after a weekend crash in Shelby County.

Joel S. Wallace was critically injured Saturday when the 2015 Ford F-150 pickup he was driving was struck by a 2021 Toyota Prius driven by a 16-year-old, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Shelby County 51 near Shelby County 280 in Westover.

After the initial impact, Wallace’s pickup left the road, struck utility equipment and overturned.

Wallace was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, ALEA said.

He was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he died Monday.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the crash.
