Spain launches affordable holidays for pensioners for 2026/27
Spain’s Imserso cheap holiday scheme for retirees is open for applications again. Here’s who can benefit, where you can go and how much it will cost you.
Imserso is a social scheme in Spain offering holidays to the elderly. It aims to offer subsidised trips to pensioners in order to help them improve their quality of life and health, as well as to reduce their dependence on others.
The scheme also incentivises employment and economic activity, alleviating the problem of seasonal work in Spain’s tourism sector during low season.
For the 2026/2027 season, there 879,213 places available.
Foreigners residing in Spain who meet any of the following requirements may participate in the Imserso tourism programme:
- A person who is retired and part of the Spanish public pension system.
- A widow’s or widower’s pensioner who is 55 or older.
- A recipient of unemployment benefits or subsidies, aged 60 or older.
- A holder or beneficiary of Spain’s Social Security System, aged 65 or older.
Imserso trips went on sale on September 14th for those in Andalusia, Aragón, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Melilla, Navarre and La Rioja.
Those in Asturias, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Murcia and the Basque Country will have to wait until September 16th to purchase them.
People in some regions will be able to reserve them from September 15th, however.

Each province has been allocated a number of trips based on the number of people over 65 registered in that region, although from September 19th, it will be possible to reserve any unsold trips from any province.
How do I apply for Imserso places for this year?
- Visit and apply through the website www.turismosocial.es for peninsular coastal trips and short break tourism.
- Visit www.mundicolor.es for island trips to the Balearics and the Canaries.
To book you will need your DNI or TIE card, plus its accreditation code if you meet the requirements above.
You can also apply through any of the authorised travel agencies with your DNI or TIE card.

For coastal areas in Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia and Murcia with transport included
Accommodation for 10 days, 9 nights costs €309.22 in low season and €409.22 in high season.
Accommodation for 8 days and 7 nights, costs €244.04 in the low season and €344.04 in the high season.
For coastal areas on mainland Spain without transport
Accommodation for 10 days and 9 nights for €270.39 for the low season and €370.39 in the high season.
Accommodation for 8 days and 7 nights for €224.63 in the low season and €324.63 in the high.
Canary Islands and Balearic Islands with transport included
Accommodation for 10 days and 9 nights for €353.37 in the low season and €453.37 in the high.
Accommodation for 8 days and 7 nights for €285.29 in the low season and €385.29 in the high.

What’s being brought back for this season?
Last year for the first time there was an even cheaper holiday rate for those in need and it’s being brought back again. This year a reduced fare allows pensioners with fewer resources to travel for just €50, regardless of the destination. In total, 7,447 people can benefit from this. It’s reserved for those who receive a benefit equal to or less than the amount of non-contributory disability or retirement pensions from Social Security.
There are also a number of trips reserved for those who want to travel with their pets. Last year, 1,066 people chose to do this, both on the mainland and the to the islands.
