What the SIC Does
The Sistema Internacional de Cotizaciones is a section of the Mexican exchange that carries shares listed elsewhere.
It lets a Mexican investor buy a foreign share through a Mexican broker, settled in Mexico, without opening an international account.
More than 1,500 foreign securities trade there, and the SIC accounts for a substantial share of total BMV volume.
The foreign company is not involved in the transaction beyond meeting disclosure requirements. It raises no capital.

The Mexican cross-listing is an addition to that listing, not a substitute for it.

Why Mexican Funds Wanted It
Mexican pension funds, the afores, operate under investment rules that restrict direct foreign holdings but permit SIC-listed securities.
That makes the SIC the practical route for Mexican institutional money into large foreign companies.
Retail investors gain simpler access, peso settlement and Mexican tax treatment.
The trade-off is liquidity. SIC volumes for any single security are a fraction of those on the home exchange.
The Date Question
Two dates have circulated for the SIC listing, 14 August and 14 September.
The September date is the better-supported of the two in available filings and reporting.
Listings of this kind are announced by the exchange rather than by the company, which is part of why dates get muddled.
The BMV publishes its SIC additions in its own daily bulletins.
For an investor the date matters only for tax and record-keeping. For anyone checking a claim, it is the field to verify.
What Mexican Investors Are Buying
SpaceX operates Falcon and Starship launch vehicles and the Starlink satellite internet constellation.
Starlink is the revenue engine and is a consumer subscription business, which makes it more predictable than launch contracts.
It also has substantial exposure to United States government contracts, in launch and in defence-related programmes.
A Latin American investor gets dollar-denominated revenue exposure. In peso terms that is a large part of the appeal.
Starlink also sells in Mexico, Brazil, Chile and much of the region. The product is familiar to the investors now able to buy the shares.
The Week It Arrived In
Technology stocks fell on Monday. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.2% intraday to a six-month low.
The fall followed an argument about the pace of artificial-intelligence development rather than any earnings news.
Mexico’s IPC index rose 0.26% on Tuesday and was not caught in it.
A cross-listing is announced weeks in advance and does not time the market.
What to Watch
SIC trading volume in SPCX over the first weeks, which shows whether Mexican demand is real or notional.
Afore allocations, published quarterly by the Mexican pension regulator.
SpaceX quarterly results, the first full ones since listing.
And further SIC additions, which the BMV bulletins list.
