Suspect caught on dashcam video throwing cash out the window

PEARLAND, Texas —

An ATM theft suspect was caught on police dashcam surveillance footage throwing thousands of dollars out the window during a chase in Texas.

The incident happened in Pearland, Texas, around 6 p.m. on Sept. 16.

Police were dispatched to a bank where a masked man “was making multiple transactions using several different cards and withdrawing large amounts of cash,” according to the Pearland Police Department.

Two men got into another vehicle and went to a parking lot nearby. When police located them, the passenger got out of the vehicle, and the driver fled, initiating a chase with police. Soon after, newly released dashcam video caught the moment when the man threw several dollar bills out the window of the moving SUV. Police later recovered more than $6,000 in cash.

Police eventually caught up with the car and arrested the other man. The passenger, Tarvares Givens, of Florida, was charged with failure to identify, and the driver, Levon Steven Jr., of Florida, was charged with evading arrest and tampering with evidence.

The investigation is ongoing for additional fraud-related charges, police say. Both men remain in custody at Brazoria County Jail.
