BBC Scotland hit comedy Two Doors Down takes to the stage
Smith and the entire cast of the most recent series are following in the footsteps of Still Game and Gary Tank Commander and making the move to a stage show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro arena.
The play recreates 14 Latimer Crescent – home to Beth and Eric Baird, played by Arabella Weir and Alex Norton – and the various neighbours and relations who find any excuse to interrupt their peace and quiet.
“It’s very different to being in the studio, where no-one’s here or watching,” says Doon Mackichan, who plays glamorous and self-centred Cathy Whyte.
“It’s still a show where there’s truth and intimacy, but you’re going to have 10,000 people laughing, so we’re going to have to really change up the timing.
“We’re still in our sitting room. The audience are eavesdropping.”
The premise of the stage show is that Eric and Beth invite the neighbours round for a big announcement from their adult son Ian, played by Jamie Quinn.
Could it be a long-awaited wedding to his partner Gordon (Kieran Hodgson)?
Whatever it is will inevitably be overshadowed by the domestic anarchy that Christine, Colin (Jonathan Watson) and Cathy, as well as Alan and Michelle, the young couple from across the road played by Graeme “Grado” Stevely and Joy McAvoy, always bring to the living room.
