Pickens County deputy charged with voyeurism, electronic stalking
PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. —
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a deputy following an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
Sheriff Jordan Powell said the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation on that began on September 11.
Jail records show James Long Reed is charged with voyeurism and two counts of electronic stalking. Court records do not have details abut the incidents, but name one female victim.
Reed, who served as a deputy, was relieved of his duties with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.
“As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability. When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime. Our badge does not place us above the law, and maintaining the public’s trust requires accountability at every level,” Sheriff Powell said.
Reed was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Pickens County Jail on no bond. Bond was set at a hearing on Friday and he was released from jail.
He is not to have direct or indirect contact with the victim, according to court records.
