Japan Approves 10 Billion Yen in Emergency Cybersecurity Funding

TOKYO –
The Japanese government approved the allocation of 10 billion yen from its fiscal 2026 general account reserve funds on November 6 to strengthen cybersecurity measures, including inspections of vulnerabilities in government computer systems and upgrades to security equipment.

Finance Minister Katayama said the funding would help ensure comprehensive cybersecurity protection through cooperation among relevant ministries and agencies.

“By making use of these reserve funds, we will work closely with the relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that all necessary security measures are in place,” Katayama said.

The funds will be used to identify potential weaknesses in information systems operated by government institutions and other public organizations, as well as to procure and upgrade equipment needed to strengthen cybersecurity defenses.
