PAWPAC shares Election Day picks
If you, like us, always try to do what Bettina Brownstein says, then a fresh list out today is going to make your path to the polls more clear.
Brownstein and the other leading ladies at Pro Arkansas Women PAC just dropped a voter guide listing the candidates they hope will claim victories on Nov. 3. PAWPAC puts their money where their mouth is, too, having sent $113,300 in donations to their chosen contenders this cycle.
A press release from the group explains how they got started supporting Arkansas women candidates:
“Ten years ago, we started with a pretty simple idea: Arkansas needed more women at the table, and those women needed more than encouragement — they needed real financial support,” said Bettina Brownstein, co-founder of Pro Arkansas Women PAC. “That need feels even more urgent today. Decisions about women’s lives, their families, their healthcare and their reproductive freedom are being made every day in our state Capitol and in communities across Arkansas. We need women in those rooms. And we need to do our part to make sure the women willing to step up and lead have the resources to get there.”
Over the past decade, PAWPAC endorsed hundreds of candidates and supported them with more than $500,000. But with each election cycle, the work of PAWPAC starts before filing day.
“Recruiting women to run for office often begins with a conversation,” said Susan Inman, who leads candidate recruitment for PAWPAC. “There are smart, capable women all over Arkansas who know their communities, understand the problems their neighbors face and have the ability to lead — but many have never imagined themselves as candidates. Sometimes they simply need someone to ask, ‘Have you thought about running?’ Our job is to ask that question, help them see what’s possible and make sure they know they won’t have to do it alone.”
