Gold and silver prices, 23 October: Gold and silver prices fell sharply in the domestic market on Friday, extending their recent decline. The price of 24K gold dropped by 0.61% to ₹1,42,750 per 10 grams, while silver prices fell by 1.93% to ₹1,96,510 per kg, compared with 22 October.
In the international market, gold slipped to its lowest level in more than two weeks on late Thursday as a rally in oil prices heightened inflation worries, with the Federal Reserve due to deliver its policy decision next week. Spot gold slid 2.2% to $4,051.55 per ounce by 11:44 AM. ET. US gold futures for December delivery fell 2% to $4,066.20 per ounce.
Investors are now closely watching the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting scheduled for October 27–28 for clues about the future direction of interest rates. This is important because the Fed’s decision will affect bullion prices, as interest rates influence the US dollar and bond yields. Higher interest rates and bond yields can make gold less attractive to investors because the metal does not generate regular interest income.
In the domestic futures market, MCX gold futures were trading 0.66% lower at ₹1,42,680 per 10 grams, while MCX silver futures declined around 1.99% to ₹1,96,390 per kg at approximately 9:13 am on 23 October.
