JR West Unveils Humanoid Robots

JR West has unveiled multifunctional railway maintenance machinery, including a heavy-duty single-arm robot and a mass-produced humanoid robot, as part of efforts to address labor shortages and reduce workplace accidents in railway maintenance operations.
The railway operator presented the equipment to the media, highlighting its efforts to introduce robotic technology capable of handling physically demanding and potentially hazardous tasks.
The multifunctional machinery is being introduced as part of JR West’s broader response to workforce shortages and occupational safety concerns, with the aim of reducing the burden on maintenance workers and improving safety during railway operations.
