Benalmadena’s ice rink is welcoming budding Torvills and Deans and families back for an affordable evening of fun, opening its new season with a charity celebration to help fund a day centre for local people with disabilities.

Friday, October 23, brings skating, children’s entertainment and figure skating exhibitions to the Palacio de Deportes. Admission costs €3, including skate hire, and all proceeds will help fund the centre being developed by ABAD, Benalmadena’s association supporting people with disabilities and their families.

Benalmadena ice rink reopening: times and entertainment

Celebrations begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5.45pm and a performance at 5.50pm, before the main party starts at 6pm. Face painting, raffles and an appearance by Frosty, the penguin mascot, are also planned, giving children plenty to enjoy beyond their time on the ice right through until 9:45pm.

Returning skaters will be stepping back onto the ice after the summer closure, with the venue’s official website confirming October 23 as its reopening date for 2026.

How ticket money will help local families

ABAD has spent more than 20 years supporting people with disabilities and their families, and describes its new centre as its most ambitious project yet. Plans include more than 20 specialist places for people with severe disabilities, adapted facilities, a dining service and transport suited to users’ needs.

Families currently face a difficult gap in local provision. According to ABAD, Benalmadena lacks a day centre for people with severe disabilities, leaving some travelling to other towns for care while others go without the support they need.

Planned respite care would also offer temporary support during afternoons and weekends, giving carers time to rest, work or manage other responsibilities while their relatives receive appropriate attention.

Anyone unable to join the celebration can contribute through the event’s “Fila 0”, a donation option for non-attendees. Contributions can be made by bank transfer using the details on the promotional poster, allowing supporters to help without buying a ticket or taking to the ice.
