Two people taken to hospital after van flips onto its side in Cairnhill Circle accident with car
SINGAPORE – A van flipped onto its side during an accident with a car on a slip road into the CTE on Oct 12, resulting in two people being taken to hospital.
In response to queries, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted at about 2pm that day to an accident involving a car and a van at Cairnhill Circle, in a slip road leading to the CTE towards the SLE.
A 53-year-old male van driver and a 51-year-old female car driver were taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The car driver is assisting with investigations, said the police.
Video footage of the aftermath sent to The Straits Times shows a grey van lying on its side. A door on the driver’s side opens, and a man is seen climbing out of the vehicle, with two people helping him get to the ground.
Police officers are seen trying to remove both vehicles from the entrance of CTE, on Oct 10.

A black car is also seen in the video, partially off the road, with its driver-side door ajar.
The video also shows what appears to be a damaged lamp post and fallen plants. Debris is also strewn on the ground.
In a post on social media platform X at 2.13pm on Oct 12, the Land Transport Authority said that the Cairnhill Circle entrance to the CTE was closed after the accident took place.
The slip road was reopened at 5.22pm.
In the Traffic Police’s release of mid-year road traffic statistics on Aug 28, they said the number of road traffic accidents and casualties in the first half of 2026 continued to show an upward trend over the past three years.
The number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries increased from 3,748 in the first half of 2025 to 3,869 in the same period in 2026.
Injuries rose from 4,894 in the first half of 2025 to 5,090 during the same period in 2026.
A 56-year-old lorry driver was sentenced to 13 months’ jail and fined $1,000 on July 13 after he drove into the CTE tunnel, unaware that the crane boom on his vehicle was raised.
The accident on Nov 8, 2024, damaged the Cairnhill Circle entrance of the CTE tunnel, resulting in the slip road’s closure and causing more than $1.4 million worth of damage.
LTA said at the time that the accident caused damage to some electrical and mechanical equipment on the tunnel ceiling, but no structural damage to the tunnel was caused.
The affected road was closed for 10 hours so debris and loose cables could be removed, leading to severe traffic congestion.
The road had to be closed for an additional four nights so repairs could be carried out.
