Air passengers in France face flight delays and cancellations due to strike

France’s civil aviation authority (DGAC) on Monday evening asked airlines to reduce flights by five percent at Paris Charles de Gaulle, the country’s busiest airport, and by 25 percent at Marseille-Provence airport.

Flights at the Paris airport will be reduced between 07:00 am and 8:00 pm (0500 GMT – 1800 GMT), while the curbs at Marseille will apply from 4:00 pm until midnight.

The cuts are intended to “limit disruption and guarantee the safety of air operations,” it said.

The DGAC also warned of possible disruptions at airports in Nantes, Strasbourg, Limoges, Tarbes-Lourdes and Pau, urging passengers to check with their airlines before travelling.

The disruption comes as public-sector unions stage a nationwide protest at a new pay freeze for civil servants, hoping to pile pressure on the government just days before the budget is unveiled.
