During its address to the UN General Assembly, the Rapid Support Forces, the two conflicting parties in Sudan, to seriously consider international efforts to end the conflict and establish an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, highlighted the urgent need to resolve the humanitarian crisis and achieve a permanent and unconditional ceasefire to stop the civil war in Sudan.
The speech also underscored the importance of initiating a credible, inclusive, and civilian-led political process to establish a civilian government free from the influence of both conflicting parties and extremist groups. The UAE affirmed that Sudan’s future should be decided solely by its own people.
The commitment to opening new horizons for peace, development, and prosperity was reinforced, aimed at benefiting the people, the region, and the world at large. It was emphasized that their steadfast approach is grounded in de-escalation, building bridges, enhancing diplomacy and dialogue, and settling disputes through peaceful means. The UAE highlighted its clear vision to convert challenges into opportunities and turn aspirations into achievements. It stressed the importance of respecting state sovereignty and fostering good neighborly relations while adhering to international law and the UN Charter.
Additionally, it reaffirmed the principles of freedom of navigation and the right of transit passage, emphasising the need to secure and protect the safe flow of supply chains, trade, and energy. The UAE expressed its support for efforts towards achieving a sustainable political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, affirming Morocco’s sovereignty over the region based on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative.
Furthermore, it advocated for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine in line with international law, having successfully conducted 26 mediation operations that facilitated the exchange of nearly 8,000 prisoners between Ukraine and Russia, enabling their return to their homelands and families.
The UAE has reiterated its commitment to supporting positive changes in Syria and Lebanon as both nations work towards a more secure and stable future. Highlighting its proactive stance, the UAE was one of the earliest to back the international community’s efforts to end the devastating conflict in Gaza, emphasizing the necessity of fully implementing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to resolve the crisis, alongside an associated roadmap.
The UAE urged progress towards a meaningful political horizon that would lead to a just and enduring resolution of the Palestinian issue, advocating for a two-state solution. This solution envisions an independent and sovereign Palestinian state existing in security and peace alongside Israel.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly, the UAE addressed Iran’s continuing and unacceptable occupation of the three Emirati islands, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, calling for a peaceful resolution of this dispute through direct negotiations or by approaching the International Court of Justice.
Furthermore, the UAE highlighted its national model’s resilience and ability to achieve concrete results by leveraging its foundational strengths.
