Delta plane makes emergency landing after smoke fills cabin; 3 hospitalized

Three people were injured and several others were treated on scene after smoke filled the cabin of a Delta plane that was heading to Boston, Massachusetts, resulting in an emergency landing on Sunday.

“People” reported that Delta flight DL251, which had departed Barcelona and was making its way to the Boston Logan International Airport, reported a mechanical issue about two and a half hours after takeoff.

The plane made an emergency landing in Porto, Portugal, the airline confirmed to Reuters.

Reuters said eight passengers were treated on the tarmac at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto. Three others were taken to the hospital.

A spokesperson for Portugal’s emergency and civil protection authority said the landing was caused as a result of smoke in the cabin of the aircraft.
