Glen “Mo” Spence’s remains found, bringing closure to Shelby County community

PELHAM, Ala. —

The remains of Glen Spence, known to friends and family as Mo, have been found, according to the Shelby County coroner, bringing closure to his loved ones and the community that rallied together during the search.

Mo’s brother said the discovery provides some closure but added that it does not ease the pain of knowing his brother is no longer home safe.

“He’s brought so many people together just throughout this whole process,” said Trish Garmon, a search volunteer. “There was a girl that said in a prayer vigil that we held for him, that Mo brought so many people together that would have never met. So you see his impact on this community through that. And for this to be the outcome, you know, this is going to devastate a lot of people.”

Search volunteers said an anonymous tip led them to the area where Mo was reportedly dropped off by a ride. They had searched nearby just one day before his remains were found.

“God, I just keep thinking about if we had gone across the street, we would have found him yesterday,” Garmon said. “But I think God had his hand on us and not letting us be the ones to find him.”

The Shelby County coroner stated there appears to be no evidence of foul play.

“It’s a very sad situation on how it ended, but at the end of the day, he’s back home,” said McKinley Cotting, another search volunteer. “He is no longer alone at night. They have closure in terms of him being found and there’s no mystery on where he’s at. So what I would say to them is that we’re still going to be here for you years, months, weeks afterwards.”

Although this is not the outcome they had hoped for, those who knew Mo want to remember him for the light he brought to others.
