Four new bomb threats on flights over France

The French government confirmed on Friday that four more bomb threats were issued against flights passing over France – the latest in a series of bomb alerts in Europe that have caused serious disruption.

The office of the prime minister on Friday announced that four flights had been diverted to French airports after bomb threats, where they landed “without incident”.

Bomb disposal units are now carrying out security checks on the planes.

“An investigation is under way to determine the source of these alerts, which are affecting the whole of Europe,” added the French Prime Minister’s office.

Three of these aircraft landed at Paris’ Orly airport, and the fourth at Bordeaux, according to a source familiar with the matter.

All four were originally supposed to be ‘overflights’, passing over French soil on their way to other destinations.

On Thursday, a flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to Evreux in Normandy after a bomb threat.

Similar alerts have been issued on several flights  mostly operated by low-cost airlines  across Europe since the start of the week.

Claims targeting some of these flights, sent to the airports in Rome and Sofia, were attributed to the “fighters of the Masculine State”. This appears to refer to the name of a Russian ultra-nationalist movement, although it has not been possible to verify the link.
