Kohli fifty, Arshdeep 4-fer lead India to crushing win over New Zealand in opener
India opened the ODI series with a five-wicket win over New Zealand in Auckland on Wednesday in a low-scoring rain-affected game.
Arshdeep Singh (4/70) and Gurnoor Brar (3/44) did the damage with the ball to restrict to 185 in 40.2 overs. Tim Seifert (38), Glenn Phillips (30) and Daryl Mitchell (28) all got starts but failed to convert them into substantial scores.
India lost Rohit Sharma (0) in the first over, but skipper Shubman Gill (37) and Virat Kohli (74, 51b, 13×4, 1×6) put on a 113-run partnership to quell any further fears against New Zealand’s seam bowlers.
