Australia’s Glenn Maxwell retires from international cricket: Report
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday.
Maxwell, who represented Australia in 286 matches, while scoring 7226 runs, has exited the international stage. He also has 136 wickets to his name.
“Probably a little bit sad and a little bit inevitable as well. I’m going to be announcing my retirement from international cricket and domestic games for Victoria in the 50 over and and the four day stuff,” Maxwell said on the Final Word Podcast.
The explosive batter, nicknamed ‘The Big Show’, is among the modern greats of Australian white ball cricket, playing key roles in two ODI World Cups (2015 and 2023) and T20 World Cup (2021) triumphs.
Having made his international debut in ODIs in 2012, Maxwell went on to represent Australia in all three formats, but was well-known for his exploits in white ball cricket.
Maxwell, 38, holds the record for the most number of T20Is hundreds with five alongside India’s Rohit Sharma.
His definitive knock in Australian colours came in the 2023 World Cup league stage game against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium, when a hobbling Maxwell smashed 201* off just 128 balls to help Australia chase down 292, after his side had collapsed to 91/7.
