CSK announces list of support staff ahead of IPL 2027: Homecoming for Albie Morkel, Mohit Sharma

Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday confirmed its former all-rounder Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty as its assistant coaches for the upcoming season.

A key member of CSK’s back-to-back IPL triumphs in 2010 and 2011, Morkel, who also plies his trade as head coach for the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, will join the outgoing Surrey head coach in the Chepauk backroom.

In a video posted on social media, CSK announced Morkel with a cheeky message carrying the numbers ‘464626’, symbolising his 28-run over off Virat Kohli’s bowling from the 2012 season.

Additionally, CSK also brought back its former pacer Mohit Sharma in the capacity of the bowling coach.

Mohit was part of CSK for three seasons, in 2014, 2015 and 2019. In his first season for the franchise, Mohit won the purple cap with 23 wickets in 16 matches.

Further, Hardik Pandya’s rumoured trade to CSK was also brought up towards the end of the video, without explicitly mentioning the player.

The announcement video concluded with head coach Zaheer Khan saying “This much is enough for now”, in response to the question “What about the trade?” by CSK mascot Leo.
