The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office shared body camera video of Cpl. Jared Havard entering neck-deep water while wearing his full duty attire and pulling an 8-year-old nonverbal child with autism from the water.

The incident, officials said, occurred on Sept. 6.

According to the post, the child had first been reported missing and was later seen entering a nearby pond. Bystanders on the bank of the pond had told officers the child had gone underwater.

Officials said the child was brought safely back to the bank and has since been reunited with family.

No injuries were reported.
