Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars: Ka’imi Fairbairn’s walk-off field goal spoils Travis Hunter’s big day at Wembley
The Houston Texans edged the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, with Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 49-yard field goal as time expired delivering a dramatic victory. The win improved the Texans to 2-4 after an 0-4 start and gave them back-to-back victories. Jacksonville fell to 4-2 in a contest that stayed tight until the final play.
Early scoring and halftime battle
Houston Texans opened the scoring when C.J. Stroud connected with Foster Moreau for a short touchdown after Nico Collins hauled in a diving 42-yard catch. A Fairbairn field goal later pushed the lead to 10-7. Jacksonville answered through Bhayshul Tuten, who scored twice on receptions from Trevor Lawrence, including a 27-yard catch-and-run. An earlier potential Tuten touchdown was wiped out by a holding penalty. Moreau’s second score just before the break left the Texans ahead 17-14 at halftime.
Second-half momentum swings
Houston Texans stretched the lead in the third quarter. C.J. Stroud found Jaylin Noel for a 13-yard touchdown, and Jawhar Jordan added a 25-yard rushing score to make it 31-21. Jacksonville refused to fade. Lawrence hit rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher for a one-handed touchdown catch, and then Travis Hunter scored on a seven-yard reception to cut the deficit to three points.
Travis Hunter’s two-way stand and the late rally
Travis Hunter delivered the defensive highlight of the afternoon by intercepting Stroud in the end zone on a later drive. The two-way star became one of only a handful of players since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to record both a receiving touchdown and an interception in the same game. His efforts set up Cam Little’s 60-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining, which tied the contest at 31-31.
Ka’imi Fairbairn’s decisive kick
Houston moved the ball into field-goal range on its final possession. Fairbairn stepped up and drilled the 49-yard attempt as the clock hit zero, securing the win and spoiling Hunter’s standout performance. The kick capped a back-and-forth AFC South matchup played in front of a lively London crowd.
Stroud finished with 312 passing yards and three touchdowns despite the interception. Lawrence threw for over 300 yards and four scores in the losing effort. The result keeps Houston in the AFC South conversation while handing Jacksonville its second loss of the season. Both sides head home with the division race still very much alive.
