TV Newsance 354 | Delhi Police vs reels: Chai, samosa aur detention

This week on TV Newsance, Delhi’s protest season went full Tom & Jerry. Police chasing, protesters scattering, and everyone in the detention bus was already editing their reel. Jantar Mantar was “fired” from protest duty, so the capital now has a new list of approved places to be angry in, and you won’t love them.

Over 7,000 people and 30+ journalists were detained in a day, including three of our own reporters. But the real scandal, according to Rubika Liyaquat, is that detainees got chai and samosas, which automatically translates to “How dare you insult the kind police?”

Godi media is also back with its annual conspiracy season – the foreign Nepal-Bangladesh playbook, and an even “bigger conspiracy” to stop Rahul Gandhi from getting into power. By the way, there’s a Batman and Shaktiman angle to this as well. Watch the episode to know more!

But the biggest villain in Goditown is now reels. We went through the protest-site content economy, where there’s a phone in every hand and a mic from channels you’ve probably never heard of. Here, creators have started treating detention like a shoot location and constables like unpaid extras. “Name plate kahan hai?” is now a popular template. But the most ironic part is that the TV anchors who’ve spent years doing exactly this to garner TRPs are now suddenly very concerned about decorum.

And somewhere in all this noise, the thing that started it all got quietly lost.
