Police car wedged over sea after ploughing through Ryde Pier railings
In a statement Wightlink said: “A structural safety assessment will now take place before the vehicle can be safely removed.
“Customers with vehicles parked at the end of Ryde Pier will not be issued with parking tickets while the pier remains closed.
“We apologise for the disruption and will continue to keep customers updated.”
A team, accompanied by police and firefighters, were seen using a small digger to lift the police car from its position at about 15:00.
The Island Line Train runs along the pier between Ryde Pier Head station and Ryde Esplanade, there is also a walkway and a lane for vehicles.
