Rincon de la Victoria politicians push Malaga Metro east « Euro Weekly News
Every single political group on Rincon de la Victoria council lined up behind one demand this week: Andalucia’s regional government must put the eastern Metro corridor first.
Councillors from the political parties PP, PSOE, Por Mi Pueblo, Con Rincon and Vox, all buried the hatched and voted as one on Thursday, September 24, for an institutional motion calling on the Junta de Andalucia to treat a line out to El Palo, then on into Rincon, as the next priority for Malaga’s underground network.
The whole of the chamber adopted the motion as a joint statement. Timing matters. The Ministry of Fomento, responsible for such projects, already has demand studies and technical options on the table for the next big expansion, and officials are weighing three directions: the east coast, Ciudad Jardin to the north, or a branch to Malaga TechPark. The creation of such a tunnel and metro network would considerably reduce traffic to and in Malaga city and offer the whole of Axarquia much easier and fast access to the big city, and further, connecting with Maria Zambrano train station for high-speed links all over the country, coach links, and even easier links to Malaga airport.
Daily gridlock on the A-7
Mayor Francisco Salado told the chamber that every administration still owes Rincon a historic debt on infrastructure. Western Malaga already has high-capacity dual carriageways, commuter rail and denser public transport. Eastern approaches still funnel thousands of cars into a daily bottleneck on the A-7.
Rincon now has more than 50,000 registered residents and works as a satellite town for the city. Heavy traffic on that motorway makes this one of the busiest commuter stretches in the province. Salado argued that sending Metro to El Palo and then Rincon would be the most useful move for the whole metropolitan area.
Axarquia councils asked to pile in
Town hall wants neighbouring Axarquia municipalities to back the same pitch before the Junta publishes its final viability verdict. Opposition speakers said the consensus showed the issue sits above party labels. A Metro link would change how people reach jobs, colleges and hospitals across the eastern belt.
Rincon is now formally pressing the regional government to weigh territorial balance and traffic saturation when it picks the next works. Earlier EWN coverage tracked the first technical studies for an eastern corridor. A planned park-and-ride near Rincon and the year-round night bus to Malaga already try to ease the same squeeze.
