Sandra Bullock Barely Remembers Winning Her Oscar
Sandra Bullock had a lot on her mind the night she won the Oscar for Best Actress.
Bullock, 62, took home the coveted award in March 2010 for her role in biographical drama The Blind Side, but the actress was in full new mom mode, having secretly adopted her son, Louis, now 16, months earlier.
During an appearance on the Thursday, September 10, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, cohost Mark Consuelos asked the Oscar winner, “What do you remember most about that night?”
“Nothing,” Bullock quipped.
She went on to explain, “I had maybe two hours of sleep. I was hiding a newborn. No one knew that I had Lou and he had acid reflux. He slept only every two hours. … So I don’t remember much of the night, but I do know I wanted to get home.”
“I wanted to do the feeding because I knew who was there with him [at home] was probably struggling,” she remembered. “I was there in the dress, and I couldn’t get out of the dress, so I sat with the dress and Lou, and Oscar was on the floor, and Lou was in my lap.”
In hindsight, Bullock said that “it was the best way to have that night” because the Oscars were “so overwhelming.”
“I think it would have been more overwhelming had I not been so tired. I just wanted to go home,” she said.
While Bullock stayed for the whole Oscars ceremony, she quickly ducked out of the afterparty that followed.
“We went to the Oscars party and we had to wait to go to get the name [engraved] on [the statue], and I was like, ‘Can we just [go]?’ We said hi, and then we took off,” she said. “Everyone thought [I] was tired. I was tired. But I just wanted to get home to a little person that no one knew about.”
Bullock initially planned to adopt Louis with her then-husband, Jesse James, but the couple separated in 2010, and Bullock adopted her son alone that same year. The former couple finalized their divorce in 2012. (Bullock later adopted daughter Laila, now 12, in 2015.)
In a recent interview, Bullock opened up about her divorce from James, 57, who admitted to being unfaithful to the actress.
“The one film that was the most meaningful to me, because it was paralleling where I was, was Gravity. It was during a really dark time in my life,” Bullock told Interview magazine earlier this month. “I was raising and protecting a little smurf while I was trying to grieve, trying to get out of it.”
She added, “Being locked in a box by myself with no one to talk to for nine hours a day, you do a lot of thinking.”
