Hough vs. Green Run: Watch North Carolina-Virginia high school football interstate showdown
The Green Run Stallions will face their stiffest challenge of the young season Saturday when they travel to Cornelius, North Carolina, to take on nationally-ranked Hough in an interstate showdown. The 3 p.m. ET kickoff pits two undefeated programs with championship pedigree against one another in what promises to be a measuring-stick game for both squads.

Green Run (3-0) enters riding momentum from last season’s 12-1 campaign that ended in the Virginia Class 5 state semifinals with a 20-14 loss to Indian River. The Stallions will lean heavily on senior quarterback Maurikus Banks to navigate a formidable Hough defense that has surrendered just 33 combined points through four games. Banks will need to be sharp against a Huskies unit that has been suffocating opponents all season.
The Huskies (4-0) bring their own star power to the matchup in senior quarterback Ethan Royal, a Marshall commit who orchestrated Hough’s perfect 14-0 run to the school’s first-ever state championship in 2025. Royal earned Class 8A state championship MVP honors after throwing for 2,272 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. However, Royal and the Hough offense will face their own test against a stout Green Run defense anchored by juniors Junious Clay, Qwayvon Cleveland and Corvin Watson, a trio that has been instrumental in the Stallions’ strong start to the season.
Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 19 with a live TV broadcast on NFHS Network.
