Birmingham City Council backs $82 million boutique hotel project with $4.7 million tax abatement
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
The Birmingham City Council has approved $4.7 million in tax abatements to incentivize the development of a boutique hotel near Railroad Park.
The $82 million project, led by Parkside Hotel Partners, LP, will transform a block of abandoned buildings into a hotel featuring 140 rooms, a signature restaurant, retail space, 2,000 square feet of meeting rooms, a 3,500-square-foot ballroom and over 20,000 square feet of community amenity space open to the public.
Mayor Randall Woodfin highlighted the importance of the project while encouraging the city’s Budget and Finance Committee to move it forward.

“We continue to want to be very aggressive about more hotel beds in our city limits,” Woodfin said. “The more hotel beds we get in our city limits allows us to continue to pitch and sell partnerships with the convention bureau as well as the BJCC. More attractions, more opportunities, more conferences, more conventions, more sports, you name it.”
Construction is set to begin next year, and the hotel is expected to open by 2029.
