Hamdan announces new 80-km road connecting Dubai to other emirates

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, has announced the approval of the new axis project, representing the fourth major route that connects Dubai to the other emirates.

This strategic initiative is designed to boost Dubai’s road network and establish connections with other emirates through an extensive 80-kilometer route extending from the Abu Dhabi border to the Sharjah border.

Through his X account, Sheikh Hamdan stated that in alignment with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to increase infrastructure investments, they have approved the implementation of the new route. This project aims to enhance Dubai’s road network while connecting it to the other emirates, covering a distance of 80 kilometers from the Abu Dhabi border to the Sharjah border.

Sheikh Hamdan further noted that the new road will consist of 12 lanes (six in each direction), 72 bridges, and 17 tunnels. It is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60% and benefit a population of over 3.1 million people. The project will also integrate with Al Maktoum International Airport and Etihad Rail. The first phase of this project from Al Shanoof Street in Sharjah to Dubai-Al Ain Road will cost Dhs3.5 billion.

In his closing remarks, the Crown Price stressed the commitment to investing in infrastructure projects as a vital driver of growth and a key element for improving quality of life, as well as establishing Dubai’s leadership and readiness for the future.
