Cinema I/O to host free screening of ‘Marnie’ (1964) Tuesday at Ron Robinson Theater

CINEMA I/O PRESENTS: ‘MARNIE’
TUESDAY 10/20. CALS Ron Robinson Theater. 7 p.m. Free.

“Marnie” — Alfred Hitchcock’s “suspenseful sex mystery,” according to its 1964 promotional tagline — occupies a unique place in the director’s oeuvre. After what is considered one of the greatest 10-year runs in anyone’s filmography, perhaps Hitchcock felt secure enough to make what is seemingly an unhinged and transparent display of his own perversions. Marnie Edgar (Tippi Hedren) is a compulsive thief with a childhood trauma (that we get in bits and pieces throughout the film) who steals from her employers before disappearing. She eventually steals from Mark Rutland (Sean Connery), a boss who becomes obsessed with her and then blackmails her into marrying him. The film only grows more intense from there. Reserve your spot for this month’s Cinema I/O Presents screening — a recent rebranding of the Arkansas Times Film Series — at ronrobinsontheater.simpletix.com.
