Teen Boys Accused of Beating and Abducting 17-Year-Old
TOKYO –
Five boys aged 15 to 17 have been arrested on suspicion of robbing and confining a 17-year-old high school student in Akishima, Tokyo, after allegedly beating him with a baton, taking his cash and forcing him to travel around on motorcycles.
The alleged attack occurred from the night of May 31 into the early hours of June 1. Police suspect the five told the student, “We’re going to search you,” before assaulting him with a baton and stealing about 2,000 yen in cash and other belongings.
The group is also suspected of taking the student around on motorcycles while holding him against his will.
Investigators believe the boys forced the student to strip completely naked before pushing him into a river and pressing a lit cigarette against his back. They are also suspected of threatening him by saying, “Get us 150,000 yen, even if it has to be your parents’ money.”
The student suffered injuries requiring about two weeks to heal.
Of the five suspects, two have remained silent during questioning, while the other three have denied the allegations.
