Tilak Varma punished for captaincy lapse during Duleep Trophy Final

Tilak Varma impressed with his bat during the Duleep Trophy Final for South Zone against East Zone in Chennai, scoring 99 runs, but the 23-year-old was reprimanded for his captaincy lapse.

On the fifth day of the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, East Zone was awarded five penalty runs after South maintained a slow over rate.

After two hours in the morning session, South had bowled just 21 overs. South had been warned for its slow over rate on multiple occasions in the first innings as well.

It only added to the woes for Tilak and his team, who spent 163 overs in the field in the first innings, conceded a 372-lead to its opponent, and was dragged on in the field despite the fate of the title decider settled.
